How to distinguish between Brass and Iron
Many wrought iron lamps pretend to be solid brass lamps through gold electroplating or gold paint. You can quickly tell them apart with these in four methods:
1. Magnet Test (most direct and effective)
a.How to do: Use an ordinary magnet on exposed metal parts of the lamp (such as hanging rods, lamp body, ceiling plate).
b. Result: Iron is strongly attracted to magnets; pure copper and brass are not magnetic at all.
Note: For safety, some internal screws and main bearing rods may use steel or iron. Test mainly on decorative surfaces.
2. Weight Test
a.How to do: Hold and compare lighting accessories of similar size and volume.
b.Result: Copper has a density of about 8.9g/cm³, higher than iron’s 7.8g/cm³. With the same thickness and size, brass lamps feel noticeably heavier, while wrought iron ones feel lighter.
3.Scratch Test (on samples or hidden areas)

b.Result: Golden or reddish-yellow metal underneath means brass; silvery white, grayish white or dark red rust means iron.
4.Workmanship and Price Check
