But beyond the lacquer itself, the real choice lies in what "gloss level" communicates within a space.

In our natural brass clear-coat deliveries, the most frequently asked question comes down to gloss versus matte finishes. And increasingly, designers and premium lighting brands are gravitating toward matte natural brass (30% gloss).

The reason is simple.

Whether in minimalism, wabi-sabi, industrial, or Nordic design, today's interiors are fundamentally returning to "human feeling"—soft, quiet, unobtrusive. That's precisely where matte finishes excel: they reduce the mirror-like reflectivity of large metal surfaces, offering a more restrained, warmer visual texture under ambient interior lighting. They don't compete for attention, yet they stand firmly as a quiet, substantial presence in the space—easy on the eyes, resistant to visual fatigue, and enduringly tasteful.

In contrast, gloss natural brass preserves the clear mirror-like reflectivity of the brass surface, with a crisp and radiant metallic sheen. It has its own irreplaceable strengths. 2. Bronze & Dyed Black: Capturing Time Through Wiping

If natural brass represents the brightness of the present, then bronze speaks of time sedimented into story. This finish, highly sought after in premium lighting and vintage-inspired craftsmanship, is no mere surface spray. It is an "art of aging" executed through a union of chemistry and handwork.

Every antiqued brass piece produced at KABO follows strict multi-step pretreatment: after degreasing and acid-pickling, the brass surface is left pristine, ready for its "dialogue" with time. We then apply a copper darkening agent or antiquing dye, creating a uniform antique dark brown or black film layer through a chemical reaction on the clean brass surface. The depth of color is precisely controlled by adjusting solution concentration and reaction time—lighter shades emerge warm as aged wood, deeper ones as silent as midnight.

What truly sets it apart, however, is the hand-wiping, an artisanal touch that no machine can duplicate. Our KABO's craftspeople use cloth wheels, scouring pads, sandpaper, and more, applying varying pressures and angles to manually remove portions of the dyed layer, allowing the brass's natural color to emerge from within the darkness. Between the depths and highlights, light gains texture; between shadow and sheen, the metal breathes.

This wiping imbues cold metal with human warmth and the thickness of time. Each piece bears the unique touch of its artisan—different wiping intensity, direction, and duration ensure that no two finished products are identical. After wiping, the pieces undergo thorough dust removal and sealing protection, either by lacquering or waxing, ensuring this carefully crafted patina endures gracefully through time.

3. Electroplating: A Spectrum of Metallic Color Options

Beyond preservation and antiquing, electroplating opens entirely new chromatic territories for brass components. By depositing different metals or alloys onto the brass substrate, we KABO can achieve a rich array of metallic aesthetic finishes.
